A Boob Journey is Jonna Luostari’s photographic documentary about Johanna “Pinksu” Marjomaa’s fight against breast cancer. Every year 5000 women in Finland are diagnosed with breast cancer. This is a true story on one of them.
In January 2023 Johanna was told that both of her breasts would have to be removed due to the fact that she had breast cancer precursor. As Johanna had already survived cancer at a younger age, the only cure for this new diagnosis would be a surgery to remove her breasts; a mastectomy. The surgery took nine hours, and months to recover from.
The exhibition consists of video work, portraits, diary quotes and commentaries Johanna got during her journey. Video work includes photography by Jonna Luostari, video posts from Johanna’s social media accounts and audio recordings from January through July 2023.
